Epitope Names CFO for Medical Products Group

    BEAVERTON, Ore., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Epitope, Inc. (Nasdaq: EPTO)
today announced that Charles E. Bergeron has been named as Chief Financial
Officer for the Medical Products Group.  Mr. Bergeron assumes these
responsibilities in addition to his current position of Vice President of
Operations for the Medical Products Group.  This move is being made in
anticipation of the spin-off of Agritope, the agricultural products group of
Epitope.
    Gilbert Miller will remain as CFO for Epitope until the spin-off when he
will assume the responsibilities of CFO for Agritope.
    "This move will help the medical products group through the transition as
a stand-alone company and free up Mr. Miller's time to focus on the work
associated with completing the spin-off of Agritope," said W. Charles
Armstrong, president and chief executive officer.  "Mr. Bergeron brings
substantial experience to this position."
    Prior to joining Epitope in 1992 as President/CEO of Agrimax, Mr. Bergeron
was the Senior Vice President, Finance at Freightliner from 1978 to 1992.  Mr.
Bergeron was also previously employed at IBM Corporation in sales, systems
engineering and in finance positions prior to being employed at Freightliner.
    Mr. Bergeron has a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering and a
Masters of Science in Management Science from Rensseleaer Polytechnic
Institute.  He also earned an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of
Business.
    Epitope, Inc. is a biotechnology company that develops and markets medical
diagnostic products.  Its Agritope, Inc. subsidiary specializes in the
development of new fruit and vegetable plant varieties.
